You need to carry a set of sight reduction tables that covers the area where you'll be sailing. HO 249 is more compact and a bit faster to use, but is limited to stars close to the celestial equator. HO 229 (because it covers all declinations) is our personal favorite. These tables can be downloaded in PDF format for practice problems, but for use at sea you should carry hard copies. |
